According to the League of American Orchestras, only 9% of music directorships nationally are held by women. The New York Conducting Institute is dedicated to working towards decreasing this drastic gender disparity in the field of conducting. Our Women’s Conducting Workshop provides female conductors with valuable training and career advancement resources. However, the cost to access such resources also contributes to the gap in participation.
It is crucial that in addition to providing these valuable resources, we also enable these aspiring conductors to access them financially. This is where your support comes in.
We aim to provide sixteen $1000 scholarships to enable sixteen aspiring female conductors to attend our January Women’s Conducting Workshop. In order to do that, we will need to raise $16,000 by December 1st.
This is a substantial goal, but with your help it can be reached. If two donors contributed $2,000 each, twenty other supporters gave $200 each, and four-hundred additional people gave $20, we would be there in no time.
If you choose to fully fund a scholarship by giving $1000, you will be putting critical training within reach of one special aspiring conductor.
Donations at all levels are greatly appreciated, and each dollar raised gets us closer to our goal. By helping bridge the financial gap, you are also helping us bridge the gender gap in the most visible leadership position in classical music.
